| www.statkart.no | hydrographic surveys | online shapefile | never | This dataset shows availability of hydrographic survey data.
The hydrographic survey data, traditionally called fair sheets, contain the soundings from the hydrographic survey. Modern surveying is carried out using multi-beam echo sounders. Single-beam echo sounders and hand lead were used earlier, which means that the data density will vary depending on the data source and age. These data are used as basis for the NHS’ digital and analogue chart products and are very detailed. It is therefore defined as classified material by the Armed Forces. Access is depending on approval. Most of the NHS hydrographical survey data is available in a digital format (sosi, shape or xyz files), but there are still some fair sheets available only in paper format. Digital deliveries of modern hydrographical survey data often consist of soundings only. Depth contours can be generated if agreed, or the unclassified depth contours can be used. The analogue fair sheets and older single beam survey data will usually cover several topics: coastline, foreshore, navaids, bottom conditions, etc. |
| www.statkart.no | bathymetry data | online shapefile | never | This dataset contains an overview of areas with marine geodata displayed in a grid.
Marine geodata or primary data consists of seamless bathymetry and coastline in a vector format. The data is continuously updated through input of new information from internal and external sources, and has been subjected to scale correction and generalisation only to a limited degree. In principal, this is our best, unclassified data and it has been subjected to extensive quality controls. A data set will consist of shallows, soundings, depth contours and bathymetry areas, coastline and skerries, as well as land areas. The point density will vary depending on source and depth, and the minimum distance between soundings is 50 metres. The typical scales used are 1:10,000 – 1:30,000, but other scales can also be used. The quality of the data will vary depending on source and age. At the moment, the NHS does not have full data coverage in the two of the northernmost counties (Nordland and Finnmark) as well as the County of Sogn og Fjordane. Production continues consecutively. Navigation critical areas are prioritised during hydrographical surveys, and some areas are therefore marked as not surveyed. |

| www.sintef.no | shallow wells | HTML | never | From 1982 to 1993, IKU (Continental Shelf Institute, now SINTEF Petroleum Research) mapped parts of the Norwegian continental shelf using a combination of shallow, high-resolution seismics and “shallow” (max. 580 m) stratigraphic drilling (diamond coring). Heat flow in the overburden was also determined at selected locations.
The seismic investigations, heat flow measurements and the collection, description and analysis of the cores and other rock samples were financed by a number of oil companies through various projects (map) during a period of 20 years. Drill cores from more than 90 holes on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (map) and with a total length of 6600 m were collected. The rocks range in age from Late Ordovician to Late Tertiary. |
